One of the earliest obtainable printed world maps at all; it shows three at that time known parts of the world. The border contains twelve dour windblowers with the map is supported in three of it's corners by the solemn figures of Japhet, Shem and Ham. The map reflects Ptolemy's understanding of the world as three continents separated by a vast ocean from the west coast of Europe to the coast of Asia. This original world map is from the seldom german edition, which was printesd on 23. December 1493. Printed by Anton Koberger at Nuremberg. With more than 1.800 woodcuts, the Chronicle of the World is one of the most important documents of early book printing in the late middle ages. The woodcuts were made by Michael Wolgemut and Wilhelm Pleydenwurff. Further it's also very possible that the young Albrecht Dürer who worked as a trainee at Michael Wolgemuts workshop till 1490 was involved in. 4.
